Prototype
COM-MA features a clear and intuitive user interface designed for Deaf parents and their young CODA children, especially those in early elementary school.
We prioritized simplicity using large visuals, minimal layouts, and easily recognizable icons to reduce cognitive load.
To foster emotional connection and engagement, we also introduced a friendly character that guides users throughout the experience.

STORYBOOKS
In addition to word cards, we provide storybook videos commonly used as educational materials for preschool children.
These curated stories include subtitles or sign language, making it easier to watch without the need for extra searching.
COM-MA is a blended word combining [CO] from CODA and [ma] from MOM.
It also draws inspiration from a baby’s babble “ma-ma,” symbolizing the meaning of a language education service for children.

Insight
Background
In Korea,
there is still no accessible sign language education tailored for CODA
Most programs are for Deaf adults, leaving young hearing children with few options to learn sign language.
This lack of early sign language exposure delays language development and creates emotional distance.
COM-MA helps Deaf parents teach sign language naturally at home, without needing formal training.
